AT&T Global Design System
AT&T had gone through breakups and acquisitions to the point there were nearly 40 different style guides. A centralized system did not exist but was badly needed to be used across all digital touchpoints.

Was tasked with gaining partner buy-in and given a small but mighty team to create the design system and build out the supporting platform.
The Challenge
-
Multiple mergers have led to hundreds of separate systems. (Online, Apps, Kiosks, Device Touchscreens, Streaming Service, etc.)
-
Nearly 40 different style guides were found for customer facing sites and applications, alone.
-
No budget or dev windows for a company wide overhaul of all interfaces across all divisions.

-
Many opinions on how to move forward.

The Strategy
-
Taking the Atomic Design approach, created a set of UI elements to work as “plug and play” artifacts, replacing existing elements without affecting the page layout. (View Video above)
-
Addressed what’s handled through CSS, such as typography and colors, careful that fonts not stray far from current font width.

-
WCAG Accessibility Standards built in.
-
Took on the global nav, moving away from the outdated raised style to a flatter design.

-
Built out a platform of reusable components and elements, readily available to Dev, Marketing, UX and Product Teams, company wide.
